Frequently Asked Questions

When I go into labor who do I call?

Birth CenterThe first call will be to your health care provider's office. Each office has an answering service or over-the-phone instructions and a physician on-call 24 hours a day. Your physicians office will guide you on your next step. If you are having a scheduled C-section the details will be worked out with your physician well in advance.

What hours is the registration desk open?

Registration is open from 5:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday. If it is not during business hours you will proceed to the next door down, the emergency department. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After you check in with registration, you will proceed up to the 7th floor. Please send in your pre-registration (located in your packet) so that we can speed up this process up for you.

When I get up to the 7th floor what will happen next?

You will be quickly assessed and then be admitted to your birthing suite.

What is the patient to nurse ratio?

You will have one nurse there exclusively for you during labor and delivery.

If I choose to breastfeed, will there be support?

Yes, lactation consultants are available seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to assist you and answer questions. If you need additional assistance after discharge consultation appointments are available. Consultations are often covered by insurance.

How long will my hospital stay be?

Typically insurance covers 24 hours for recovery after a vaginal delivery and 48 hours after a caesarian section. This does not mean that if you deliver at 2 a.m. that you will be leaving at 2 a.m. the next day; you will stay until you are up and ready in the following morning. This is a “typical” stay but each delivery is different. Also, you must check with your insurance provider for coverage.
