Stevens Hospital, Swedish Neuroscience Institute Launch TeleStroke Program

TeleStroke Program

South Snohomish County area residents facing a potential or actual acute stroke will now benefit from a partnership between the emergency department team at Stevens Hospital and stroke specialists from the Swedish Neuroscience Institute (SNI) Acute TeleStroke Program.

TeleStroke provides a telemedicine-based link between the Stevens emergency department team and the comprehensive team of stroke specialists based at the Swedish/Cherry Hill Campus in Seattle to assess and diagnose patients experiencing stroke symptoms. Through a secure, real-time, video-conferencing network the SNI team can perform ‘virtual’ bedside neurological evaluations of stroke patients at Stevens. Stroke specialists can review brain images and quickly select the best acute stroke treatments in collaboration with Stevens physicians.

“It’s a team approach to diagnosing stroke patients quickly and, most importantly, evaluating them for treatment to stop the stroke and potentially reverse the effects of stroke,” says Richard Campbell, MD, assistant medical director, Stevens Emergency and Trauma Services.
